Dera chief Ram Rahim gets 21-day furlough;

Haryana CM Khattar says the leave granted to

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving a 20-year jail term for raping two women, is a 'coincidence'.

 Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said had nothing to do with elections.

When questioned by media, the Haryana chief minister denied that the sect leader's release from Sunaria jail in Rohtak district had anything to do with the Punjab elections on February 20.

“I think it is a coincidence and has no connection with the polls,” he said.

He had applied to the Sunaria jail superintendent for it, and a referral from the concerned officials in Gurugram was thereafter requested.

The Dera chief was escorted out of the prison by armed guards. He arrived to the Gurugram ashram in the evening, where his family awaited him.

Earlier, a police contingent was stationed near the ashram.

"There are court decisions that say if a prisoner wants a furlough after three years, he can take it," said Khattar, who leads the state's BJP-JJP coalition government.
